PeeWee Reunion

Remember the Pee Wees / remember them building a nest to have it washed away in a storm, well friends the Pee Wee Reunion was held a couple of day in a row last week.
There is a new batch of Pee Wees, 'cause there are now six (6) of them.  Into the tree they all flew and the first place they went to was the area on the branch where the old nest markings can be seen.  A few little pecks and a scratch and then sit on the spot, standup and do it all again.  It was just as if they were roughing up the carpet to get the dust out to sniff it again.
Mum and Dad flew off and that's when the kids started to squeel.  Some birds are younger than the others and they are beautifully black and white, not a feather out of place and mum and dad are still feeding them.
They played all day in the tree.

And this morning 24 Oct I spotted one returning to the branch with nest stuff.
They are renovating the old house, stumps up with new material.  So looks like there is a wedding coming up and more kids to watch grow up

Well it is now the 20th November and we have noted over nearly a month lots of activity at the nest. It took about 8 days to build the nest.  both birds brought little bits grass and mud  and slowly built the nest.  Interesting to watch them as they layered and stitched the grass, bits of twine and mud and then lining and shaping the last layers by stamping their feet.
We then noted that one bird spent more time on the nest than the other, but both birds were always in the area.  Intruders were chased away, with feathers flying and much squarking, then one bird returned to the nest, while the other continued the chase.
Through rain and windy days the birds have taken turns to sit on the nest.  Photo on the right shows mum or dad sitting on the nest with wings out protecting the nest
Then I noticed that the feeding had started, but no heads up over the edge.
But by the 19th Nov a few hears appeared, by the 23rd they were much bigger and reaching higher for food, had a few feathers and still 4 in the small nest.
I don't know how fast birds grow, but there have been a lot of grubs and worms delivered to the nest and yesterday I saw hungry wide open mouths with big bulging eyes and very few feathers stretching up out of the nest as each bird arrived with a feed.
By the 25th Nov one month after the nest started there are four new peewees all bundled together in that little nest.
Photos yet to come - watch this space
